For the repositioning of the ‘Forum Mülheim’, the upper and lower floor (basement) with a total of 14,500 sq.m of the total rental space of around 52,000 sq.m will be comprehensively refurbished by the end of 2023. The new areas will be available for health, therapeutic and care services and will complement the existing retail and F&B offer. In addition, a kindergarten will be built on the ground floor. The centre will remain open during the entire renovation works.
The new symbiosis of different areas of life and customer needs will create synergies for more quality of stay and service for the centre. The value potential a mix of medicine and retail can produce, was confirmed in a survey commissioned by Commerz Real and conducted by the market research institute Civey in the summer of this year. According to the survey, a move to a shopping centre or office building is a conceivable option for about 44 percent of the surveyed doctors in private practice in Germany.
“The planned conversion demonstrates Commerz Real’s commitment to a sustainable development of the location, in order to meet the evolving consumer trends and expectations,” explains Daniel Wahle, Centre Manager Forum Mülheim.
The medical practice spaces being created in the “Forum Medikum”, ranging in size from 150 to 2,500 square metres, are aimed at all areas of health care: not only doctors’ practices, but also, for example, physiotherapy, curative education, health insurance companies, medical supply stores, and nursing services. When designing the new areas, components of the so-called “Healing Architecture” will be integrated, which will have a positive influence on mental and physical well-being and minimize stress factors. These include, among other things, appropriate wall design, pleasant fragrances and relaxing music.
The Food court will also be refurbished to increase the quality of stay and invite visitors to stay even longer. During the conversion measures, the retail offer will be further expanded focusing on complimentary and essential retail and services.
